As you have probably heard on Castledown Radio and in the local media, the digital TV switchover is starting in the Meridian Region from 8th February 2012 (when the process begins for parts of Berkshire and Wiltshire, and northern Hampshire – areas served by the Hannington Transmitter).
Analogue TV signals will be turned off and Freeview services boosted to reach all areas. After switchover, virtually all homes will be able to receive digital TV free via an aerial, including those served by local relay transmitters. When you switch depends on which transmitter your TV gets its signal from.
The Digital Switchover Help Scheme project has been commissioned by the Digital Switchover Help Scheme, which is managed by Carillion plc on behalf of the BBC. The help scheme offers help to older people and disabled people to make the switch to digital television. The help scheme website is at www.helpscheme.co.uk and contains lots of information about the scheme and how it works.
Morning Show presenter Rick Young spoke to Kathy Caton, Assistant Regional Manager for the Digital Switchover help scheme. The topics covered included who is eligible for help from the scheme, what the scheme offers, do you need a new tv or aerial, and when the changeover will happen in our region.
