Castledown Radio and the Digital Switchover Help Scheme.
The Digital Switchover Help Scheme project has been commissioned by the Digital Switchover Help Scheme, which is managed by Carillion plc on behalf of the BBC. The help scheme offers help to older people and disabled people to make the switch to digital television. The help scheme website is at www.helpscheme.co.uk and contains lots of information about the scheme and how it works.
The CMA (Community Media Association) is co-ordinating the project and are acting as the link to Carillion and are here to help with any questions and problems.
The BBC has selected the full-time community radio stations in the area of which Castledown Radio is one of the stations taking part.
Project Aims
The aim of the project is to communicate some key messages about the help scheme:
• Help is available for older people and people with disabilities to convert one TV to digital. "Help is here – call us."
• If you are eligible, the help scheme will explain digital TV clearly and simply; tell you about the options available; install what you need in your home; and make sure you are happy with how it works.
There are two key audiences the project is hoping to engage:
1. People (especially those from BME groups) who are eligible for the help scheme:
- Those over 75
- Those who have lived in a care home for six months of more
- Those who get (or could get) certain disability benefits
- Those who are registered blind or partially sighted
2. Everyone else – who can provide a "helping hand" by referring people they know (neighbours, friends, relatives, etc) from the above groups to the help scheme.
