John McConnell, Castledown Radio's "Voice of Ludgershall", recently went out to meet Betty Balcombe, a very special lady who lives in Weyhill.
John interviews Betty Balcombe about her award
Betty was Mayor of Salisbury in 1986 and has been a board member of Testway Housing Association in Andover for seven years. She is also chairperson of Testway Forum and a panel member of Transform at Testway Housing, and a committee member for the Weyhill Fairground Hall and if that's not enough she is chair of the Weyfayre Social Club Committee.
It would probably not surprise you to find out that Betty recently won a Community Champion award at the South National Awards Presentation held at the BBC in Southampton. Betty received her award from the BBC's Ester Rantzen.
John and Betty discuss the contents of a shoebox
For the second year running Betty is organising a Shoe Box Christmas Appeal for the children of Bosnia, so if you want to help please get in touch with Betty on 01264 773529.
