Alan Heaton, a former pupil of Castledown School, popped into Castledown Radio recently and spoke to Baz Reilly about his forthcoming trip to Mount Everest.

A great adventure you might think, but Alan is running the marathon for a great cause, he is aiming to raise money for a group of orphans in Nepal.

He spoke about the poor conditions the Nepalese people are subjected to everyday and pointed out that even through their terrible circumstances, they still manage to be warm and friendly to everyone they meet and that strength and courage inspired Alan's decision to actively raise awareness.

Already he has managed to raise over £1600 to go towards a years worth of sponsorship – including food, accommodation and education.
