Excavation is a routine step in the work that has to be undertaken when a new area of land is to be developed for housing. The site at Pennings Road in Tidworth is no different - except that during the course of the excavation, several items were found from the Iron and Bronze Ages and also the medieval period. An Excavated 'Roundhouse' There is much knowledge of the areas surrounding Tidworth, but little is known of the actual town-centre itself and the recent find could prove to be a golden opportunity to learn of the town's early history. Andy Manning is the Project Manager for Wessex Archaeology and he popped into Castledown Radio to chat to Rick Young about the recent discoveries, what significance they may hold in terms of Tidworth's history and how the findings may or not not be 'earth-shattering'.
